Fit In Five Steps
How to replace a Ford Mustang 3.8 V6 Engine Harmonic Balancer Crankshaft Pulley?
1.Prepare the Vehicle
Open and support your hood. Locate your harmonic balancer. Jack the vehicle up high enough to obtain access to the harmonic balancer, located on the front of the motor and attached to the crankshaft.
2.Remove the Accessory Drive Belts
Using a flashlight and mirror, inspect the harmonic balancer for signs of wear. Remove the belt from the crankshaft pulley. In most cases, the crankshaft pulley is part of the harmonic balancer. Remove the accessory drive belts and Remove the harmonic balancer bolt by using the strap wrench to hold the balancer still.
3.Remove the Old Ford Mustang 3.8 V6 Engine Harmonic Balancer Bolt and Unit
Using a suitable socket and ratchet, remove the harmonic balancer mounting bolt. Use a pulley puller (gear puller), place the hooks in an area that will not easily break, like the lip of the pulley section. Remove the harmonic balancer unit.
4. Install the Ford Mustang 3.8 V6 Engine Harmonic Balancer Bolt and Unit
Match the replacement part to the old harmonic balancer before installation. Make sure that bolt hole locations are the same, size is the same and if applicable, timing marks are the same. Align the woodruff key slot in the new balancer with the woodruff key, and carefully slide the balancer onto the crankshaft.
5.Lower and Start the Vehicle
Reinstall harmonic balancer in reverse order while following manufacturer torque specifications. Start the engine and road test the vehicle to verify the repair. Rotate or loosen the belt tensioner to reinstall the belt. Lower and start the vehicle.
