How to replace a Chevrolet A/C Accumulator?
1.Recovering the Refrigerant from the System
Material Needed
- Refrigerant recovery machine
Connect the refrigerant recovery machine. Turn on the A/C recovery machine and begin recovery. Measure the amount of oil recovered from the system.Disconnect the recovery machine from the car.
2.Removing the Accumulator
Materials Needed
- Ratchet
- Sockets
Remove the lines connecting the accumulator to the rest of the A/C system. Remove the accumulator from the bracket and the vehicle. Remove the old rubber o-rings from the lines.
3.Installing the Accumulator
Materials Needed
- Accumulator with o-rings
- Large, open-end wrenches
- Ratchet
- Sockets
Install new rubber o-rings onto the accumulator lines. Install the accumulator and bracket onto the car. Secure the accumulator to the car with the accumulator bracket. Tighten the lines that connect to the accumulator.
4.Evacuate the System of all Moisture
Materials Needed
- Oil injector
- PAG oil
- Vacuum pump
Place the system in a vacuum. Allow the vacuum pump to run for a minimum of five minutes. Allow the system to sit in a vacuum for five minutes. Remove the vacuum pump from the A/C system. Inject oil into the system with the oil injector.
5. Recharge your A/C system
Materials Needed
- A/C manifold gauges
- R 134a refrigerant
- Refrigerant recovery machine
- Refrigerant Scale
Connect the manifold gauges to your A/C system. Place the supply tank on the scale. Charge the system with refrigerant. Sit in the car and check the temperature out the vents.
